Hello there,
I'm a Belgian (Europe) 945 owner (xcuse my English) for over a year now and, like most of you, quite satisfied
It didn't start very well though. 5 Days after I bought the camera I had a total lock up. After I switched it on, the display became totally white, lens moved out and the red led switched ... and it stayed like this. Couldn't switch it off anymore. I removed the batteries, left them out for 10 minutes, put them back in: no change. Left them out for 2 hours, no change. Changed batteries: no change, changed memory card: no change, removed memory card: no change ...
Went very dissapointed back to shop and because I had a failure in the first month, HP gave me immediately a complete new camera (so no repaired stuff for me). Quite relieved I went home and since then I have no problems at all, just a great camera.
Why did I buy this one? Well:
- I don't have the budget to buy an arty farty super pro camera, nor do I want to spend it, I'm a simple amateur and I want value for my money.
- I want good optics, good optical zoom (945 has great zoom)
- Good mechanics (not like the breakable Z1 or Z2 of minolta I compared)
- standard, replaceable batteries (I use four 2000 mAh batteries and I easily make it through the day and even then, I have a spare set)
- 5 mega pixels
- video with sound (though the sound needs work)
The 945 was a logical choice after this.
There are ofcourse some flaws as well:
- not easy to shoot in dark conditions
- very difficult to shoot unpredictable animals due to rather slow focus
- very, very bad sound in video (I'm trying to use some sound isolation material on it) as well as rather poor resolution and short time
- the lock up of which I'm still afraid
But, I'm a very proud owner. Canon, Nikon and Olympus owner often sarcastically smile in my direction untill we start the compare pictures, or even worse, price tags
This is one of my favourite pictures:
I don't use many assecoires:
- a simple but handy tripod
- a portable harddisk (battery operated)
and that's about it
The only thing I'm realy looking for now is a handy camera bag. As small as possible, only to fit the camera and perhabs a battery set. Any help welcome
Thx + great initiative this site!! |
